Indian Indians Are Annoying

I hate to say it, but Indian people, and I mean people who have been raised in India, can be so annoying! I say this as a waitress and as a fellow traveler and as a fellow citizen to be frank. Indian people born and raised outside of India or at least raised outside of India are fine. It's just the caste system or something, and yes it is still there. I mean as a waitress, I had a whole group that would always come in. I stopped taking their table, because they would have 10-20 people, they would order tons of food, I would be really nice, stay pretty much out of their way, but keep drinks full, food read, plates cleared, etc, and I would hear them making snide remarks about me, and then they would leave me maybe a $5 tip if I was lucky. On the other hand, my white male coworkers would serve them, and they would easily get respect, $50-$60 tips, etc. So we all knew they knew how to be nice and tip well. But a female server who was not white was below them, and apparently those of us who fit that description are meant to serve them. I had another table, a couple, who would always come in. I had no problems serving them. They tipped horribly to be and better to my white male coworkers. But at the same point in time, they were fairly quiet, never made snide remarks, were gracious toward their servers in general, etc, and that I can handle. But it always did bug me with the tip thing still the same.

Then there's the planes. I mean I'm not a real talker on planes, because I understand it's weird for some other people, it's weird for me! But I've ridden to Korea from San Francisco and LA before. LA, there's always a lot of Koreans, and San Francisco it's always tons of Indians on their way to India. We're a layover to them apparently. Anyway, there is always this smell with a lot of Indian passengers, the older people always cut in front of huge lines of people waiting for the bathroom, they always have their seat reclined as far back as it will go, and when you're having meals, the stewardesses will come and sit their seat up, and they will wait till she leaves and then set it back again. And I swear, sitting on the aisle seat with an Indian guy and his mom, I was forced to get up every 5 minutes so that they could walk around randomly or go to the bathroom or something. And sadly, I am not actually exaggerating. they woke me up more than once, it was about a 20 hour flight!

And then there's the guy on the plane ride. He locked himself in the bathroom to smoke. It's illegal to smoke in the bathrooms. But he was in there for a solid half hour. So I woke up to the stewardess knocking on the door saying sir please come out, sir please open the door. I looked back and she said oh he's smoking in there. This went on for a while more, at which point she kept saying sir we know you're smoking in there, just come out. Finally, they found out what seat was his and came back, said his name, and said sir we have just charged your credit card X amount, basically the fee for disabling a smoke detector, smoking in the bathroom, etc. At that point, he came out, yelled, screamed, it was interesting. But honestly, the thing I hate is a lot of times it just seems like they feel like they are entitled to be above everyone else and have everyone else bow down to them or something.

  2. I'm Indian. I was born and raised in the U.S., and I've been to India maybe once, and I have to say you're mostly right.
But please don't think that every Indian from India is like that. Most of my family was born in India and they're not obnoxious. All of us bathe, we're really polite, we're NOT racist, we definitely use deodorant.
I'm so tired of everyone thinking all Indians smell bad just because a bunch of morons decided it would be fun to not bathe.

Anyway, although you may be partially right, I suggest not writing about how one particular racial group is annoying. You're just inviting hateful comments, and yes, I know that's kind of the point, but there's something not right about making racist blogs.

  3. I am an Indian male living abroad.

i go to india like once a year and even i honestly hate a lot of habits my relatives do have like their apathy, lack of civic sense. They talk about the most petty things like who's suffering from money troubles, which relative is the new black sheep and the most negative topics thinkable that just makes me sick. no wonder they are still stuck in their respective hell holes...hating each other in groups behind everyone's backs.

my dad wanted to get out of his hell hole 20 years back and he did and he gave me all these progressive ideas and so here is the point, Live and let live...

    1. buddy, your goddamned relatives are not the only people living in India...you probably should come more often and meet others (there are 1.2 billion of them) and know for yourself than accept your father's 20 years old opinion.
I am INDIAN female living in India and its just blissful to live in India. I have a lot of cousins and friends living abroad, but everyone of them is so proud about being an Indian...don't understand why you think otherwise...
and don't fucking call yourself an Indian...there is nothing Indian in you...
And if your father told you that India is what you think it is...Its good that he left the country...

    3. Arun I just want to to bring this to your attention that you need work on your history. Britishers had planned to break India into a number of pieces, it was Vallabhbhai Patel and other Indians who united it. And if you hate India so much instead of complaining work hard to bring a change. Struggle is needed to achieve something. If you can do nothing but complain about it, please do not expect it to improve. Do not expect something when you did not work hard for it.

  5. I am an Indian having a Korean Aunt and Korean relatives and I am very happy to be in a multicultural happy extended family. Please stop these racist comments from either side. Whichever way a person behaves depends more on individual being, not from the country they come from. Please comment sensibly. I have seen lots of good Indians and Koreans and the bad ones too. Doesn't mean all are like this. Would be happy if the comments are made more civilized.

  6. I agree with Kenny, there are good and bad people everywhere in the world, it doesen't even have anything to do with race, we are always going to have that 30% douchebag population of the world. Please don't label a whole race according to what you have experienced from just a few people.

  8. Koreans are definitely more racist towards Indians than the other way around. If an Indian goes to a Korean cultural event, no Korean will come up and talk to him. If a Korean went to an Indian cultural event, some Indians will come talk to him. There are many Indians interested in Korean things, but you will rarely find Koreans interested in Indian things. Korean women will chase after white men, but they will never even go after Indian men, even if the Indian men make the first move. Not just Koreans, but East Asians (aka Orientals) just do not like South Asians (aka Desis). Many Indians find Koreans attractive and would like to get to know them, but almost all Koreans think Indian men are ugly. Yes Indians can be racist towards Koreans, but Koreans can be much more racist towards Indians. Koreans go out of their way to be friendly towards whites, but they will never go out their way towards being friendly towards Indians. The only thing East Asians like about South Asians is their food, but they have no interest in us outside of that. If Koreans were not racist, why do you always see Korean women with either their own race or with white men and why don't you ever see them with Indian guys, considering California has a huge population of them.

People like him/her need to get some balls and have enough pride to do your own dirty work. Guess you struck a chord with his low self-esteem. I admit some Indians are annoying but so are others in this world. Rich elite ruined America dropping it to a 2nd world country by raising the 3rd world countries to a 2nd world. You just don't know it yet because it's still being falsely propped up.

  10. I would like to comment first on the smoking topic , dear silly waitress... stop and think , i know of course u never did it but try . I know you all are hypersensitive to criticism and that makes you to write so , but had you been a girl with wisdom teeth (Brain) you could have understood that the person did that not because of the instinct that he was Indian but because of the inevitable habit of smoking . Now coming to the tip part , my dear , this of your speech gives your introduction and also a conclusion that you are greedy , then coming to stinky part , which is of course the most illogical one , sweetie , being raised in India has got nothing to do with smell , if someone stinks , its only them to be blamed , today if i see a Korean smelling eew , i would blame him , not Korea . You people get what you deserve , Racism for silly racist as you . Sweetie , i wont say this for you , or Koreans to be specific , but dear its for each and every racist . Now being a Indian i am obliged to conclude not being polite so :- BLOODY HOMO KOREANS .

  11. haha I am totally with you sister, don't let these politically correct fuckwads make u feel bad. I feel like there are certain things Indian people do that are super annoying, like SUPER annoying. Its as if they have no sense of shame, and will do things (I'm mostly referring to the men) that are just plain obnoxious and unsexy. Like, for the love of God, wait is not 'vait', it's 'way-t'. weeping willow is not 'veeping villow'. Don't they understand that just because you have an accent it doesn't mean you can keep making the same phoenetic errors? And the smell. I mean, if I knew I smelled like garlic, I would for sure stop eating garlic. So why do they think they can run around smelling like curry 24/7? It's unpleasant and inconsiderate for everyone around them.

It all blended well and may be mixed in our "daily curry" so it runs in blood. People who can think sensibly , leave the country at first chance. Most intelligent people do not leave country because they do not love it rather they flee because there are about 1 billion stupid people obstructing their work and freedom of expression. It is a pseudo-democracy and one hell of a hypocrite nation.

  16. To answer Sandeep - why do YOU think u don't see Korean girls with Indian men? You say because they're racist? Hahaha. You don't see many people of ANY other race with Indian men (or women!) so maybe everyone is racist! Or maybe it's not everyone else that's the problem.

One more thing to Indians - your accent isn't cute, it's the most ridiculous sounding accent on the planet. The way you think it's fun or something just adds to how annoying you are. Please do the world a favour and stop multiplying. Please! We'll all love you and we'll even continue making up jobs for you, sending you charity etc if you promise to just stay in your beloved India. We're begging you, leave us alone. We won't even laugh at you for worshipping elephant headed gods or giant flying monkeys, or thinking rats are sacred, and we'll continue to pretend your music has any kind of melody or rhythm or structure, and that it's enlightened, and we'll pretend your 6 hour musical movies are good. 3. You realize everyone is laughing AT you, right?

There are 1.2 billion Indians in the world. Even an idiot would realize that a portion of them would be attractive. Just like a portion of any race would be attractive.

And maybe YOU don't see Korean girls with Indian men because you obviously don't have anything better to do than continuously post on a very useless blog but there are a lot of Indian/Asian pairings out there.

In fact, I'm getting married to my beautiful Korean girlfriend of 3 years next year. It sucks that you don't have anything going for you in life but I honestly don't feel bad for you. You are obviously one of those people that was cursed in every area at birth.

Oh yea, and why don't you come to 1600 Amphitheatre Pkwy, Mountain View tomorrow and let all the Indians know how useless they are at their job and how they stole it from some deserving "American". You can start with the CEO, who's Indian, and work your way down the org chart from there. You'll find that a majority of the top positions are filled by Indians.

And I'm just a lowly Staff Systems Engineer but even then every single person working for me is brilliant at their job. Including all 4/10 Indians.

So what were you trying to say again? Something unoriginal about Hinduism (because worshipping a the ghost of a dead, spiteful arab makes a lot more sense...)? Or was it about that accent you hate so much? Well I'll save you some trouble. No guy, Indian or not, would touch your pathetic excuse for a body with a ten foot pole. I grew up in the US but I still realize that Americans also have an accent. Literally everyone has an accent. Good job pointing out the obvious. You don't like the accent? Then stop hanging around Indians like a desperate mentally challenged kid. I love my girlfriends accent so I like being with her.

If you don't like them or their accent than you should follow your own advice and leave them alone. Do you think any guy, Indian or not, gives 2 shits about some socially stunted, ugly thing that barely passes for a woman? Please, crawl back into your cave so that we can talk to some actual women who don't have self-image issues and can hold an intelligent conversation.

Oh yea, by the way, that address was Google. The CEO is Indian along with a majority of the senior staff and basically every other level that requires intelligence.

  17. OK - one last thing (really this time) - Indians think everyone else thinks they're smart. This is your own arrogance talking - you just have a HUGE population and are cheap workers, so the west use you for cheap jobs, but never give you too much responsibility. Name one thing you've contributed to the world with all your intelligence? You study math in sweat shop universities but you don't know how to apply it. Then you flood our countries with turban wearing quack GP's that we force on our poor citizens who can't afford private care.

Chinese, Korean & Japanese people for example are smart. Indians are not.

They have no fucking shame or pride for learning or good work. They don't bother listening in class, skip classes, disrupt the class, and expect good grades! The smelliest, fattest, bitchiest Indian in my class wants our program to be fast-tracked, in order to get through it as soon as possible. Funnily enough, she never comes to class! 26. hi poster,
I'm indian, and I'm sorry for the experiences you've had with indians. Our food (tastier it is the more smellier the shit) is smelly, that is not a surprise. But not every indian eats unhealthier over-spiced foods throughout the day, there are also a ton of mellow dishes that will not stink up the bathrooms.
The bad tips for the female, good for the white male... thing I don't understand. My parents can be cheap at times but they would never discriminate on the tip.. based on waiter attributes. If anything my parents and my indian friends, we would tip more if we thought you were poorer. And yes, we do think white people are more richer than koreans, that's not a bad call. We think darker skin is poorer always, that is a fact we learned from our caste system.
Indians as you know have ties to the homeland, parents, etc.. and they often have to send money back.. or put their cousin in india through school, or help out some uncle in the hospital.. and they feel it's better to be cheap and save every buck.. rather than waste it on tips.. whhen they could have saved a life in india or something.
Anyways, i came here in 6th grade adn i knew from school to tip a certain amount, my parents didn't know at first, we tipped same as in india.. 5% at best. After 3-4 years we tippied 10, now we tip the standard 15%.
So um.. there's not much you can do about this, except let them know about it, any way you can, do it anonymously, wahtever.. else they will learn some day.. maybe in a few years.. until a new fresh indians come off the planes.. yay.. lol you gotta laugh at the situation in the end.. 29. A few things,
    1) Did you ever think that you didn't get good tip because you are poor waitress. I mean if other waitresses got more tip than you from the same people then obviously the problem isn't the waitress. Its the service. (DumbAss)
    2) @Duff who thinks Indians didn't contribute anything to the world, The fact that you are using this blog service was invented by Indians. Hotmail the very first e-mail service was invented by an Indian programmer. And the fact that your dumb ass is using a computer, is because of an Indian. Because the value '0' was invented in India which is used in the binary language to program the computers.
    3) @Duff it has been proven the world's oldest written language is Sanskrit which is an ancient Indian language.
    4) Our food may have a distinct smell to it because of all the spices but its the best tasting food in the world. Remember the reason why columbus accidentally discovered America. Its because he was going to India to get spices so that European food will have some taste and texture and class.
    5) And you are talking about Indians being racist (HA). Did you forget slavery in america, British ruled over India and Africa

  34. You're very brave for saying all of this and I applaud you. One should never be taken to task for what is essentially free speech on the internet.

I'm mixed race - indian/chinese but born outside of the respective countries. In fact, neither countries hold any heritage significance to me although my ties to China is probably closer despite me not looking the part. I hardly care though as I do not fit in neither groups nor do I want to. I'm happy straddling the middle ground.

Now I agree with most of what you said because I know it to be true. The people I've had the most trouble with be it at work or even on the plane have been the Indian nationals. Then again, the Mainland Chinese too mirror the habits. I can't speak for the smell, because my nose is perpetually blocked (hah!) but that might be a little too personal to talk about.

However, I do urge you to not judge the whole race simply because of the bad eggs you've encountered. I agree with the things you said but despite it, I do not treat all my colleagues of that nationality like they're filth. Doing so, would only make us stoop to their level, provided they're taking the high and mighty approach.

I must say that I'll be visiting Korea (and very excited) in late March and I do hope that not all Koreans share your mentality as I would be very sad should they spit and scowl at me as I walk the streets.

  36. Guys, I don't understand as to why all this racism is going on people smell according to hormones secreted in their respective bodies & we are all human beings first, so why bother with abusing the races? I would say no matter the place you are from try exchanging positive points about each other. I find animals to be better than us humans in general as you can see we are fighting our petty issues like who smells and who reeks. I think its about time we put these aside and grow up together as human beings. Why bother mustering up hatred on someplace or someone every one has their own outlook and philosophies lets respect them and leave them at that.

  37. I agree. I am Indian and this irritates me too.
Indian culture, at least in India, has these problems not because of an inherent problem, but more because the country is so competitive that being polite is difficult, so that attitude of being only self-interested becomes deeply entrenched, even within extremely nice people.

  45. Sorry to see you all arguing over appearance and race; we have much bigger problems to deal with than putting each other down by calling names. Love each other because we all are unique individuals.

  46. Man, oh man. Most people on this blog harness so much hatred. It's disheartening. I'm Indian-American, I HAVE lived in both Korea and India. In both countries I saw many difference and many likenesses. Yes, India is a more impoverished country that is, unfortunately, still slightly behind the times. But, that doesn't mean we can generalize a bigoted perspective against all Indians by assuming they are a dumb, unclean race. In contrast, Korea is very well-off nation that people lump in with "the rest of the slant-eyed countries", or believe they are a pompous, pretentious race. Indians and Koreans are good people, don't let a few bad moments with your fellow man skew your perspective anymore then it already has. Honestly, we all need to stop being so self-aggrandizing, egomaniacal, and demeaning.

I'm not saying love each other... but grow the fuck up guys.

  49. As a British Indian reading this post did get me slightly riled up as it's ridiculous to assume ALL Indians are like this (unfortunately i can't even deny when it comes to a select few)...Aaaaand then i read the comments.

To those of you throwing around every possible Korean related racial slur around, how does being more racist help anything?
This is ONE Korean persons views, and at least this post was based on some (unfortunate) experiences. The comments on this post are childish, rude, incredibly racist, and quite frankly your attitudes are part of the reason we have the stereotypes. Grow up and have some respect, and maybe then we'd see less of these posts around.

  51. Whoaaa, what a blog!!! full of frustration...lol
Kudos to Ms who painfully wrote this blog which is full negativity, people who commented and idiot like me who read this entire article... I have to compliment myself that even after reading the entire article I didn't felt anything except sympathy towards people who are so full with anger and hate. Stereotyping is a personal experience by an individual...and that is not a fact. I like korean, japanese, taiwanese, european or american, african, indian, indonasian etc who show respect and have kind heart to people different race, culture, religion and not stereotype. Btw I am born and brought in India. About myself in detail...want to listen cool, else u are free to close your eyes.. here I go... I bathe daily and someday it can be twice depends upon climate and pollution, fond of perfumes, deos and sandal agarbattis, oh also, brush my teeth twice a day. Love reading and interacting with people all across world.

And for the prejudiced comments of the fellow people aboue..come and live in india for a while experience the struggle yourself..and then judge us..

  56. i think you guys are F**king morons to comment on this blog. The bitch is trying to provoke and you guys are starting to comment one after the another. and the bitch on the other side is laughing at you guys fighting one another.
In my view why to give shit about this blog. dogs will always bark then why to give shit about it and start barking along with dogs. the bitch who wrote this blog is herself annoying and frustrated with her life. she's not only got problem with Indian's but i also think she got problem with other country race as well. and if she says "NO" then i will think that she is a F**king liar.
so, guys don't give a shit about her. i am too an Indian and i have meet thousands of Korean people and not everyone think we are annoying in fact they think we are smarter than them. whatever i don't care what they say or think about us. but i think everyone is unique and it depends on us how we react.

    cheer up guys ^_^

  57. LOLZ, read all the comments and then...didn't wanna read, so much hatred towards Indians and their accent and their smell and what not!
Just want to tell a little bit about myself, I'm an Indian student studying abroad in Singapore ma'am(the one who wrote this letter). I'm adept at speaking and writing Korean. I am going to study in Korea at Seoul National University soon since i have got my acceptance letter. I have many Korean friends and one day they fought with each other when they were deciding which one can invite me to dinner with their mom on NEW YEARS EVE.
I love a girl and she loves me. She is korean. We have been together since 3 years. I am going to propose soon.I hope one day all this hatred would go away against us, against Koreans, against every country in this sinister world. I truly hope that we can meet one day so that i can show you the girl i'm going to marry(or maybe i would have married her already..ㅎㅎ).
    Take care 누나.
    안녕하세요. 나는 한국어 사랑해요. 잘자요.

  58. I am an Indian who was brought up abroad.I agree that Indians may seem annoying to you but not all are like that. The new generation is far better. Now here are a few things that I want to clarify :-

    1-Tipping
We do tip, however we don't tip a lot.Thats just how our culture is.Just like how in certain countries you are expected to tip and in certain places it's frowned upon,we too have our on social etiquettes. If Indian expects get to know that it's customary to tip
,they may do so,though it obviously varies according to each individual.

    2-Smell
Try eating Indian food everyday for at least a month and see if you don't start to smell or not.Its just that Indian food has a lot of Masala in it.Its not that we don't bathe. To be honest Indians are probably one of the most cleanest people on earth.Have you ever been to an Indian home?
FYI we do wear deodorants to take care of the smell, though keep in mind not everyone smells because of masala.Thats just a stereotype.

    3-Caste System

You are right it's still exists, however it's only practiced in rural villages and mostly by old people who lived before it was outlawed by the government.Any of the people that you must have met outside Indian definitely doesn't practice castism.

To conclude have you read Go set a watchmen? It's the second book in the mockingbird series by Harper Lee.In the end the main character chooses to coexist peacefully with others even though her views were absolutely different from theirs.(They were racist she wasn't)So what I am trying to say is, whether you think of Indians in the stereotypical way or not is none of my concern,However YOU SHOULD learn to FORGIVE AND FORGET AMD COEXIST. Even if you think shit about us keep it to yourself and don't spread hate.

  60. Hi everyone..
I feel quite shocked on how much hatred is filled in the minds of some people at this age and time.. I am an Indian female in her twenties and I always thought racism was all in the past.. I thought the world is moving towards the better.. But it saddens me when I read the comments of a few people coz I got to know how wrong I was.. Not all fingers of the hand are similar.. Everyone is unique and beautiful in their own way.. By generalizing everyone by your preconceived ideas, ur missing out the opportunity to get to know more about them..
And by speaking so rude in a public forum, ur only hurting people who u have not even met and getting more hatred in return..
There are flaws in every society and each new generation works hard to reduce those flaws..
My grand parents could have been racist.. But I am not.. That right there means that ur generalization is wrong..

  61. This is funny and i love Koreans

  62. I am an Indian and after reading this blog I am feeling very insulted whoever has blogged this should not blog such things about a country without knowing the people well. You just can't say that a country's people are bulls*#t because you saw them misbehaving at a few places. To know a country's people you need to know that country's circumstances and it's culture. Not all the people belonging to a country are same. Even I can make it out without really knowing Koreans that all of them are racists but it's not that might be the younger generations are not racists and the highly educated are not racists. In a similar way the younger and highly educated Indians might not be as you think they are. Even I'm an Indian, being brought up in India, being educated at an Indian high school but we are also taught to be in discipline and behave properly. Even our Parents have taught us to give respect to others even if it is a waitress at a restaurant. I hope that however has read this would not talk nonsense about a country or its people without knowing it. And I am really ashamed and I apologise to the Korean lady who has blogged this for the indecent behaviour that she has got from Indians.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Wow I just didn't read the comments above I think the people who have commented nonsensical things about India are uneducated people because racism is being reflected in their comments.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I think I and my fellow Indians want an apology from the blogger and the other people who have just spit out their undefined and unreasonable hatred for Indians.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I seriously do not want to sound rude but not all Indians have that habit of disturbing the people around them I think the world is changing and we too should open our minds and absorb in the changes of this world .I being an Indian is a huge fan of Koop and so do many of my friends. I would certainly hope that the author searches more about india and then the person would get the real insight of us Indians.

  66. mr, really, stop it already. You are also an asian sir. and DISHWASHING... dont you do it or perhaps your mother never did it before...you must not be familiar with the word 'HOUSEKEEPING' ..ladies in india do it too. SIR
